RECOVERY ALBERTA

Recovery Alberta shares supports on World Suicide Prevention Day, September 10

September 10, 2024

EDMONTON – Today marks World Suicide Prevention Day, a time to recognize and create awareness around the far-reaching impacts of death by suicide.

Many Albertans are impacted by suicide, directly and indirectly. Recovery Alberta has supports for both individuals struggling and those supporting others.

Suicidal thoughts, attempts and deaths affect us all. Though talking about suicide can help, it is often tragically the case that feelings of fear, shame and guilt are a barrier to discussions.

Learn how to talk about suicide, for yourself or with someone you’re worried about:

If you are in crisis, visit the closest emergency department, call 911 or the Suicide Crisis Helpline at 988.

Our Mental Health Helpline is also available 24/7 at 1-877-303-2642. Children struggling can seek confidential help, free of charge, through the Kids Help Phone: 1-800-668-6868

General, non-emergency, information on mental health services and supports can also be found by calling 211.

Established in 2024, Recovery Alberta is the new provincial health agency responsible for providing comprehensive and accessible recovery-oriented mental health and addiction services, and correctional health services, in Alberta. In partnership with the Ministry of Mental Health & Addiction, Recovery Alberta supports Albertans facing mental health and addiction challenges across a continuum of care, including prevention, intervention, treatment and recovery.
